survey of literature 12

responds to student

1. This should be addressed to Frederick Sanders

Poetry is an art form in which human language is used for its aesthetic qualities in addition to, or instead of, its notional and semantic content. It consists largely of oral or literary works in which language is used in a manner that is felt by its user and audience to differ from ordinary prose (Thorsen, 2018). Poetry is an important part of our everyday because it can also be noticed as a form of expression. Poetry allows you a chance to be whoever you choose through a sense of wording. Poetry is an important part of understanding the perspectives of others. It is a great way to get across a message, idea, or short story. In my opinion, there is no such thing as good or bad poetry. It is all perceived in the eyes of the reader. One poem could have two or three different interpretations depending on who the reader is. This often makes me think about reading the bible. Depending on what denomination is interpreting the reading depends on what each chapter may mean, or the significance may be different.

Also, poetry may use condensed or compressed form to convey emotion or ideas to the readers or listener’s mind or ear; it may also use devices such as assonance and repetition to achieve musical or incantatory effects. Poems frequently rely for their effect on imagery, word association, and the musical qualities of the language used (Blejmar & Bollig, 2016). With the different tones and emotions that can be gathered from poetry it is very interesting to read and try to determine what it is that the author is trying to say.

2. This Respond should be addressed to Laddie Rice

In this week’s discussion question, we are tasked with finding the importance of poetry and identifying elements that I find important. I will be the first to admit that I have never been a reader of poetry and have never found it particularly interesting. I thought there was no way that I could write anything that could be remotely factual and was struggling to find an approach that I found interesting. As I read my daughter her nightly stories it came to me like a runaway train on a downhill track, fast and straight. I realized that the same things I had been reading my daughter for 4 years was poetry, so I typed a few search words and boom, here we are.

It has been documented that early word association for children, many times, came in the form of poetry and music and this has greatly improved the literacy rates for children (Harris, 2008).

building upon essay assignment 1 and or 2 this assignment asks you to write a three paragraph essay

Building upon Essay Assignment #1 and/or #2, this assignment asks you to write a three-paragraph essay. There are two options:

OPTION 1:

1) Use Paragraph #1 to provide a brief definition of one of three concepts: 1) taxidermy; 2) integration; 3) sovereignty.

2) In Paragraphs #2 and #3, apply that concept to the film Exiles. Possible ways to apply your concept to the film would be, among others, by 1) comparing and contrasting central characters in the film; 2) discussing how Native Americans, as a group and/or individually, are represented in the film; 3) comparing and contrasting locations in the film. Keep in mind that there is a video lecture on this film.

OPTION 2:

For option 1, the concept of “taxidermy” will work less well than “integration” and “sovereignty.” Therefore, if you would prefer to choose an object relating to Native Americans from contemporary culture and follow the procedure of Option 1 — i.e. definition, plus two paragraphs — to write your essay assignment on the concept of “taxidermy,” you may take this option.

For Short Essay Assignment #3, paragraphs two and three are worth 3 points each. Paragraph one will be a definition you have previously written and now strengthened for this assignment and worth one point.
