While many countries are OK with bribery, the U.S. falls on the spectrum of some corruptness, but still on the low end. Denmark and Sweden had the least amount of corruption, whereas countries like China, Russia, India all fell on the high end of the corruption spectrum (Hill & Hult, 2017, p 52). Human rights seems to be a hot topic in the news, but yet corruption still takes place. The example in the text of Walmart de Mexico is a key example. So much bribery took place and even when the issue was brought to the attention of the Walmart executives in Alabama, it almost sounded as though the issue was swept under the carpet. It wasn’t until the SEC came in and started their investigation that changes took place, but at that point, it was too little, too late. The damage had been done to the areas of Mexico that were impacted (Hill & Hult, 2017, p. 53). These examples shed the light that not only is there corruption in other countries, but when the issue comes to light for the counterpart US executives, they need to take the right ethical steps to stop the corruption of their company in another country. I imagine a lot of money could have been saved had the Walmart executives acted correctly to begin with. Additionally, they may not have the “tainted” image they do for so many people today. I know I hear of so many people who will not shop at Walmart because they don’t like how they do business, this is a perfect example of a corrupt business example in another country.
