Students will choose a research article related to a topic of their interest. The article should be adversarial to their current research position. The student will write a summary of the article and discuss how it fits in with the major research project they are currently completing. The extra credit assignment will critically discuss how they attempt to fit this research into their own current research. The adversarial article may be one where a competing hypothesis has been generally accepted in the scientific community, an article where the research demonstrates significance of alternative findings, or one which suggests the student’s research will likely prove the null hypothesis. There may be other adversarial types of articles, these are just a few types of articles that may be considered. The Extra Credit assignment will be 3-5 pages in length.
