Building upon Essay Assignment #1 and/or #2, this assignment asks you to write a three-paragraph essay. There are two options:

OPTION 1:

1) Use Paragraph #1 to provide a brief definition of one of three concepts: 1) taxidermy; 2) integration; 3) sovereignty.

2) In Paragraphs #2 and #3, apply that concept to the film Exiles. Possible ways to apply your concept to the film would be, among others, by 1) comparing and contrasting central characters in the film; 2) discussing how Native Americans, as a group and/or individually, are represented in the film; 3) comparing and contrasting locations in the film. Keep in mind that there is a video lecture on this film.

OPTION 2:

For option 1, the concept of “taxidermy” will work less well than “integration” and “sovereignty.” Therefore, if you would prefer to choose an object relating to Native Americans from contemporary culture and follow the procedure of Option 1 — i.e. definition, plus two paragraphs — to write your essay assignment on the concept of “taxidermy,” you may take this option.

For Short Essay Assignment #3, paragraphs two and three are worth 3 points each. Paragraph one will be a definition you have previously written and now strengthened for this assignment and worth one point.
