Steven Johnson and Kif Leswing share an interest in paying close attention to activities widely thought of as â€œtime wasters.â€ They draw different conclusions about what we can learn from the ways people (especially young people) use social media and video games.
The essay instructions: write an essay that explores the social impacts that social media has or may have on people in the future. Develop this essay by referring to the Black Mirror episode “Nosedive,” connections to Johnson and Watkins’ texts, as well as your own experiences.
For the supporting paragraphs, the following ideas should be included: the impact os social media on socialization, the impact of social media on employment (e.g. A job applicant’s social media postings are considered in the fire and hire process), the impact of social media on business (e.g. Companies use social media to advertise their products), the impact of social media on people mental health and well-being (e.g. Happy, sad, anxiety, irregular lifestyle). Each of the ideas should be one paragraph.
To support your thesis statement, your final draft should have:
- An introduction with a clear thesis statement which indicates the results of your inquiry-i.e. the significance of your findings related to online time and video games;
- Fully-developed supporting paragraphs which include quotes, descriptions, personal experiences, and critical discussion to support your thesis
- 4 to 6 pages in length, appropriately formatted to MLA style (including a Works Cited page), double-spaced, and fully-developed paragraphs with an interesting title.
